We are heading towards the long winter, soon we will be below 0°C day and night and dropping lower and lower and even lower . . .
For a long time we have been fundraising, getting the word out about the city-bus mobile drop-in centre we want to purchase - a safe and welcoming place for the homeless. But, we are still far away from this reality!
We need it and would love to have it this year before winter starts! We don’t want to be like last year where we quickly met people on the street outside in freezing temperatures (or like a few weeks ago in the pouring rain and scorching heat), give out a meal, patch a plaster, chat a bit and then rush off (us and them) before we all turn into ice sculptures!
A warm place is what we want to provide for the chat, the plaster, the prayer, the meal, the counsel, the laughter and tears, the haircut or hug that no one else wants to give them. Such a place is a big missing link here in UB, and a very important starting and connecting point . . .
But even this is not enough to help homeless people return to normal life . . .
Next to the mobile drop-in centre we are also preparing to start a community living & work place, on our piece of land at the edge of UB - an environment without the alcohol-consuming colleagues or employers taking advantage of their weak position. Through businesses we aim to start this also become a means to finance the project too. We need the start up resources to be able to make this happen too.
If you would like to make a contribution towards the finances needed for these next phases in our work please contact us or get involved!
